Boston Red Sox vs the "Evil Empire"
"The Showdown in April"

On April 16, 2004, the New York Yankees visited Fenway Park to play the Boston Red Sox for the first time of the year.  After last years playoff series (this game was exactly 6 months from the day that series ended) and the off season trade of ARod, the hype behind this series grew to the most anticipated game in the history of MLB in April.  5 hours before the game, the street around Fenway were packed with fans and media.  The game had the feel of a October Playoff game.  During the day, the Red Sox unveiled and dedicated the Ted Williams statue that now stand outside of Fenway.  Mike and the Mad Dog from WFAN 660 in New York broadcasted their daily sports show live from atop the Green Monster.  ESPN's also broadcasted Sportscenter from there.  The game dominated sports talk shows all around the country.  In Cincinnati, Lance McAllister told his listeners how great it would be to see the game from on top of the Green Monster.  Well, we had that opportunity.  And Lance, there are no better seats in America to watch a baseball game.

Here is Rob and Jon as we ride the "T" to Boston.   Little did we know that the free ride we got was going to be just the beginning of the greatest game I have ever been to.  And yes, we froze!  The picture on the right is Rob and Jon standing in front of Fenway Park.  And yes, I turned down $850 for our tickets!  (I just had to remind everyone of that

Here I am checking out all of the media trucks that were there. 15 on that one street.   Like my red hair? To say there was a media frenzy would be an understatement.

Jon and I went to the 2 greatest sporting events of the year in the last week and a half.  Being at Gampel when UConn wins the National Championship and then sitting front row on the Green Monster to see and boo ARod's (aka PayRod, A-Fraud, after he struck out...KRod, after he dropped the ball... E-Rod, and wearing the yellow pants to Fenway...GayRod) in the "Showdown in April".  I can't believe the security guy took all of our A-Fraud signs we were handing out.  I don't even have one as a souvenir.  You can see one of the A-Fraud signs on the table in the 3rd picture above.

DSC00160.JPG (248072 bytes)  Here I am with Bob Lobel of the Boston Globe & NESN and former Red Sox Sam Horn on top of the Green Monster.  When I asked for a picture Sam said, "with hair like that, of coarse"!  When Sam was heading home, he made it a point to stop by me and hit me on the chest and say, "See ya buddy".
DSC00173.JPG (198775 bytes)  "MANNNNY....MANNNNY....MANNNNY...MANNNNY!!!  It is all our fault that he dropped that ball.  Never yell at Manny when he is going to catch the ball.  2 hands, Manny, 2 hands!!!  I don't care what anyone says, Manny's the Man!  Thanks for waving to us everytime we yelled at you, every 2 minutes.  Remember, 2 hands!  Thanks for showing Johnny Damon (aka Caveman, Heyseuss, and Unibomer) how to catch the ball between innings.

Wonder what it looks like from the best seats in baseball?

The Yankees wanted UConn coach Jim Calhoun to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming game. But as a lifelong Red Sox fan who grew up in Braintree, Mass., the coach of the national champions didn't want anything to do with the Evil Empire.
"No chance," Calhoun, 61, said Wednesday. "Sixty years of torment is enough."
Calhoun was more than happy to accept the Red Sox's invitation to throw out the first pitch Monday before the Patriots Day game against the Yankees at Fenway Park.
According to sources, Calhoun said something to the effect of, it would be "over my dead body" the day he throws out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium

Booing ARod and watching him go 0-4, having a blast with Manny during the game, chanting "Steroids" with 35,000 other members of Red Sox Nation when Giambi and Sheffield were batting, meeting childhood hero Sam Horn and him stopping to say bye to me when he was leaving, getting in trouble with security for handing out A-Fraud signs in Fenway, getting yelled at by the FOX cameraman for sticking a A-Fraud sign in front of the camera, and sitting front row of the Green Monster to see the Red Sox beat the Yankees....
Priceless!!!

There are some things $183 million dollars can buy
